GOALS
-
Goal: To become an AT, MD, and/or PD
in a Top 20 market.
Action Plan: To continue to use
my networking skills to work with industry heavyweights--not only to make
connections for future gigs, but also to help develop my skills as an air
talent and as a programmer.
-
Goal: To make the station I'm at #1
in its target, and secondly, #1 12+.
Action Plan: First and foremost,
to follow upper management's plan for growing the station. Secondly, to
study competing stations to find their weaknesses and exploit them. And
finally, to use research tools (such as trade magazines and MMR) to research
what works at other stations--and try to implement the findings
to my station's advantage.
-
Goal: To help the people I work with
become better at their jobs.
Action Plan: To remain positive
in the face of adversity; to never let internal problems reach the other
members of the airstaff, the rest of the station, or the listeners; and
to help others meet their goals as requested.
-
Goal: To help the station meet its
non-programming goals without affecting the on-air product.
Action Plan: To help develop non-traditional
revenue ideas--including such things as a station website and station newspapers,
magazines, and/or newsletters--as well as helping to develop added value
for clients without sacrificing air resources and sound. Also, to use research
sources to help develop these plans.

-
Goal: To help develop the airstaff
to its full potential to advance to the next level.
Action Plan: To have regular aircheck
meetings with the staff to help jocks develop themselves, as well as helping
them learn to prep, and plan so that they might advance to the next stage
of their careers.
-
Goal: To make the station top-of-mind.
Action Plan: To be very, very visible.
Have the station vehicle in every local parade and at every local event.
Make the station the first radio outlet charities call when they need help,
and then, to come through for them. Send out press releases to local media
and trade publications trumpeting our successes.
-
Goal: To promote station harmony, avoiding
the little conflicts that infect otherwise successful stations.
Action Plan: To plan plenty of
social events. Put in place a system for resolving conflicts between departments.
Have a zero-tolerance policy for in-fighting and backbiting. Promote a
family atmosphere and make the station a fun place to work--which will
make the station more successful as a whole.
