Travel Teams

Olney Soccer Club Tryouts

Travel teams hold tryouts in the first half of June for the following seasonal year. There are occasional openings on some teams following the fall season. Based on roster size, some teams also hold tryouts in November or December for the spring season. Teams also may conduct tryouts for individual players during their practice sessions in the fall and spring seasons. Please call one of the contacts listed for each team for tryout information.

Girls U16 Onyx

The Olney Onyx (WAGS U16, division 3 in spring 2004) are looking for one or two field players (foward/midfielder) and a backup keeper/field player. If you are interested, please contact Manager Steve Routh (301-253-6817, rouths@comcast.net) or Coach Tarike Makour (301-675-8905, totomak@aol.com).

Girls U11 Comets

Olney Comets, a U11 WAGS team, is looking for a few committed and enthusiastic elite players to join the team for the spring. These players must be born on or after August 1, 1992. Coach Danielle LaRoche-Gaines is a former division I college coach and player. Coach Danielle stresses skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and competitive play. Practices are in the Olney area. The team will be playing and training indoor at the Rockville SportsPlex this winter. Boys U10 Sting

Olney Sting, a boys U10 team (born between August 1, 1993 and July 31, 1994), is looking for a few additional players to compliment our talented and cohesive team. We have a very solid base of 10 outstanding players, and need to build in anticipation of moving to 11 players on a side next fall. Sting competes in the National Capital Soccer League (NCSL) and participates in many tournaments during the year, winning two in 2003. The team has been coached by David Butler, a former pro player from Ireland, since its inception several years ago. Dave, a USFF licensed coach, is a dedicated, committed parent who volunteers his time, energy and comprehensive knowledge of the game, from basic skills through advanced tactics. Overall the team's focus is on player development, skills improvement, and building self-confidence and love of the game, while contending successfully at the highest level of competition. We have a wonderful, dedicated group of boys and very strong parent participation. Sting trains in the Potomac, Rockville, and Gaithersburg areas, depending on the season and field availability. Boys U9 The Swarm

The Swarm, a boys U9 travel team (birthdates between August 1, 1994 and July 31, 1995), is looking for a few players for the spring 2004 roster and the future. The team is coached by Alan Pringle. Tryouts are being held at the Rockville Sportsplex on:
  • February 1, 8 and 15 from 5PM to 6PM
  • February 20, 27 from 6PM to 7PM.
