In May, Steve and I had the good fortune to be invited on a Bordeaux Getaway Biking Trip by our friends, John and Gaily Beinecke.

We spent the first weekend in the City of Bordeaux. We had some great seafood and had a wonderful time walking around the city.

The bike trip lasted four days, Monday through Thursday. The route took us along the Dordogne river, in the St. Emilion and Bergerac areas.

On Friday, it was off to Paris for a quiet weekend before returning to the Big Apple.

On Monday, a bus took us from the City of Bordeaux to the starting point of our bike tour, Château de Rauzan. We explored the 13th century ruins, and then walked through the town to pick up our bikes. It was then off to St. Emilion and our nearby hotel with a stop at a little auberge for lunch along the banks of the Dordogne river.

Tuesday was a day for exploring the vineyards around St. Emilion. We started the morning with a leisurely ride into St. Georges, passing the town of Pomerol and the vineyards of Château Petrus. With a brief stop to visit the Eco-Musée, it was off to St. Emilion along a scenic loop through Montagne, Puisseguin, Parsac and St. Christophe-des-Bardes.

In St. Emilion, we had a quiet two hour lunch in a great restaurant with very, very relaxed service. After lunch, it was back to St. Georges for a wine tasting at the Château. Then, it was back to the Hotel and a second wine tasting.

In the evening, we had a wonderful dinner sitting outside, in a town plaza next to the church of St. Emilion. A special 10 p.m. tour of the chapels, crypts and underground church followed dinner.
