TRIO CON VOCE showcases the talents of three extraordinary young virtuosi: pianist/composer Brian Suits, violinist Kyung Sun Lee, and soprano Jennifer Aylmer. While classically trained, the three perform concerts which cover a wide range of musical styles. Gershwin, Porter, American traditionals and even Suits' own harmonically opulent, rhythmically charged works are mixed with masterworks of the classical repertoire. In addition, the members of TRIO CON VOCE enliven their performances with informative and often humorous background on the works presented. In sum, breathtaking execution and profound lyricism, appealing and accessible programming, and just the right blend of informality are what make a TRIO CON VOCE concert an experience to be remembered. After recently completing her apprenticeship as a young artist with the Houston Grand Opera Studio, up-and-coming soprano Jennifer Aylmer is a featured artist this season with the New York City Opera. A 1997 graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center, Aylmer has sung with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Hogwood, Wolf Trap Opera Company, Aspen Opera Theater and the Florida Philharmonic. Aylmer is the winner of the Richard F. Gold Grant, the National Society of Arts and Letters Award, and a 1996 Opera Index Grant. Opera News reported "Aylmer displayed mature musicality and confident technique." According to the Berkshire Eagle, she "captivated the audience with her radiance and charm," while the Washington Times stated "A well-honed expression already exists in this young voice, as well as full, rich support and a genuine assurance." Always an advocate of American music, Ms. Aylmer is one of that extremely rare breed of singers who, while being lauded for her operatic skills, nonetheless lays a legitimate claim to mastery of the art of singing popular standards as well. Kyung Sun Lee has been a laureate in the Tchaikowsky, Queen Elizabeth, Washington, D'Angelo and Montreal International Competitions. Lee's career has included concerto performances with orchestras throughout North America, as well as the Munich Radio Orchestra under Yehudi Menuhin, Moscow National Orchestra, and Belgian National Orchestra in Europe, the Seoul Philharmonic, KBS Orchestra, Pu-Chun Philharmonic and Taipei City Symphony in Asia, and the New Zealand Symphony. She has been heard in Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and Bargemusic in New York, and at both the Kennedy Center and Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. As a chamber musician she has participated in the Marlboro, Ravinia, and Cape & Islands Festivals in the US, and the Prussia Cove Festival in England. Pianist Brian Suits is a soloist, collaborative artist and chamber musician, but he is also an accomplished improvisational artist, as well as a composer whose output runs the gamut from serious modern works to jazz pieces and popular songs. His compositions have been heard in Merkin Hall and on WQXR and WNYC Radio in New York City. Additionally, Mr. Suits was a finalist in the 1995 Schirmer Music Young Composer's Competition, and in the 1997 Renée Fisher Foundation Composer Awards. In the fall of 1997, he performed as soloist with the Jupiter Symphony under the direction of Jens Nygaard. Suits has recorded a set of 22 CDs released in Korea in 1995; included are Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven piano sonatas and Czerny etudes. He has been a member of the faculty of the Yale University School of Music since 1990.
