History - The Chamber started in March 1965 with 25 members and currently has 150 members. Significant growth in the last few years has made the Chamber a vibrant organization. The Chamber is involved in bringing new business to the area, helping its members when called upon and making Granby a better place to live by enthusiastically supporting town activities and charities.


Purpose - The Granby Chamber of Commerce, Inc. is organized for the purpose of advancing the commercial, industrial, civic and general interests of Granby and its trade area.
The Chamber is a place to meet other business owners in town and, through networking, solve problems that are common to all businesses, with a special focus on small business.
At the general meetings learn how to deal with the recurring challenges of business ownership or be introduced to new ideas that could be helpful to your business.















Benefits

Insurance - Through the Chambers Insurance Trust, several insurance programs are offered to members. The most recent is ConnectiCare, an HMO, offering group policies at group rates to small business owners. The sole owner of a business with no employees can get the same insurance a large company can.















Networking - The Granby Chamber started a monthly networking meeting in 1993 allowing businesses in Granby to meet, network and to have a forum to describe their business or service to fellow business owners. It was very successful; as a result Granby invited East Granby and Simsbury Chambers to participate. The new alliance was called the "Valley Network." A rotation schedule was devised, and meetings are held at a different Chamber location each month, effectively tripling exposure! Attendance is usually between 60 and 120 people.

The "Valley Network" is still growing as Simsbury adds Canton and Avon to its invitation list, Granby and East Granby invite Suffield and Windsor Locks.

Directory - An annual directory listing all the Granby Chamber members is mailed to every household in town. Advertising in the Directory is open to granby Chamber members only.

Referrals - The Chamber has phone listings in the SNET phone directory and the Farmington Valley Visitors Guide. We receive phone calls and letters from families and business wanting to locate in Granby. these leads are given to Chamber member(s) whose services have been requested.

Member Support - At times, Chamber members present proposals to the P&Z commission, or other town boards, that could have broad community impact. When appropriate, Chamber members lend their active support at meetings or by communicating directly with the decision makers. Sign Boards - To alert all potential customers, prominently placed sign boards announce the opening of new retail businesses in Granby.

The Chamber actively supports promotes and encourages new business in Granby!











Community Activities

Many Chamber members serve on town boards; they keep the board of directors current on what is happening and how it will affect the membership.

The "Band Shelter" was a very successful project initiated by the Chamber. It now gives the Pars & Rec department a place to hold concerts which are enjoyed by the entire community.

The very effective "Artists in Residence" Program was started and promoted by the Chamber. Its purpose was to enhance music in grades K-12 at a time when programs were being cut back. The initial project led to the formation of the flourishing Granby Music Society, which the Chamber continues to support.

The Chamber offers annual scholarships to outstanding granby High School graduates.

The "Town Forum" meetings are a collaboration between the chamber and Citizens for a Better Granby (Granby Drummer) which allow the voter to be better informed on the budget and other Town matters.

The annual "Chamber Golf Tournament" has raised significant funds for Granby charities. 100% of all money raised goes back to the community.

The "Otto Neumann Memorial" at the town hall was spearheaded by the Chamber. Otto was a past president and active member of the Chamber.

Chamber Activities

Windsor Federal Savings & Loan and The Granby Chamber of Commerce presents the Spring Celebration & Business Exposition. They invite you to attend on Saturday, may 16 from 10 AM to 4 PM. There will be over 25 local business represented to discuss their services as well as several restaurants with a "taste" of what they offer. We'll Have entertainment too - a juggler, magician, moon bounce for the kids and musicians for all ages. You can be a part of a fee drawing to win any number of prizes worth up to $200. Please stop at the chamber table for more information. We'll all be in the area of 18 Hartford Ave.
