Description:

The heart of The Stack the Deck Writing Program is teaching four sentence manipulatory skills combining, rearranging, subtracting, and expanding. Mastery of these skills will not only improve your students' syntactic fluency but also provide them with a writer's vocabulary that will aid them in revising a composition.

Folders:

Two folders are available for observing and assessing student growth in writing: a primary folder. (Explore the Deck and Discover the Deck) and a folder for grades 3 - 12 ( Check the Deck through Master the Deck).

The primary folder (WF200) contains the following items: a record of all stories students have written, a record of poems, letters, reports, and book students can write, a ME WEB for listing potential stories, and a sheet of skills students have learned to use.

The grades 3 through 12 folder (WF100) contains the following: correction symbols for revising and proofreading, a record of all student writings completed, a list of the writing modes and the main characteristics of each one, rubrics with a complete criteria and descriptors of the key traits of successful writing, student portfolio selections including pieces collected, student input, and teacher comments.

Posters:

Ten writing posters (11 x 17) are available that are simple and straightforward. They serve as a constant reminder of the key concepts and practical ideas incorporated in the textbooks and reinforce the writer's vocabulary.

Poster headings:

1. Brain as a Computer and Writer's Vocabulary
