At the end of the 20th century, the communication styles and needs of the culture have embraced technology. It is the task of schools to help students become literate members of this culture. The choices and challenges surrounding the use of multimedia authoring tools to help children develop literacy are not so much whether to use them, but when and how effectively schools will add these important tools to the repertoire of learning opportunities.
