The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of using a computer program to help kindergarten students understand the concepts of left and right. Researchers assessed prior knowledge of 32 kindergarten students by asking them to identify familiar objects that were either left or right of the initial object on which the students has placed a finger. An experimental group of students was exposed to the software program "Jellybean Hunt" from Edmark Corporation's Trudy's Time and Place House. Results indicated that the students who were exposed to the computer program significantly increased their scores on the posttest which measured their understanding of the concepts of left and right. Conclusions were drawn that children as young as kindergartens can have positive educational experiences with computer technology and educational programs.
