Color-Coding Keyboard Functions to Develop Kindergartners' Computer Literacy

While excitement surrounds the availability of computers in the classroom, using a computer keyboard for the first time can be overwhelming and frustrating to kindergarten children. This was the experience of a teacher in a bilingual, kindergarten classroom who wanted to use computer technology to advance students' writing abilities by encouraging them to create their own stories. How should she handle this dilemma? The teacher used color-coded symbols familiar to students on specific key functions of the computer keyboard.
