Debates Via Computer Networks: Improving Writing and Bridging Classrooms

Dr. Jon M. Peha
T.H.E. Journal, Vol 24 No 9, April 1997, p. 65-68

This distinctive application uses forums on networks to provide a space in which students act as either "partisans" or "decision-makers" in writing and analysis tasks. This highly structured course also brings together all students who take the class, regardless of which section they attend. The author discusses how the forum software can be used in other disciplines, covers grading criteria, and shares some of the lessons they've learned along the way.
