The Language Arts component of the A+dvanced Learning System consists of 25 groups of lessons for learning grammar, usage, speech, vocabulary, spelling, comprehension, word analysis, and all levels of writing, straight through publication. The lesson groups are:
Grammar & Usage I (Grade Levels 1-3)
Develops and strengthens basic grammar and word use skills. Assists in mastery of subjects, predicates, nouns, pronouns, verbs, plural nouns, punctuation, adjectives, comparisons, capitalization, contractions, and problem words. Over 30 lessons.
Grammar & Usage II (Grade Levels 4-6)
Develops and strengthens sentence concepts. Assists in mastery of sentence types, subject/verb agreement, participles, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, abbreviations, and compound words. Reviews nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and correct verb usage. Excellent essay questions!
Grammar & Usage III (Grade Levels 7-9)
Review and diagnostics of grammar skills. Assists in mastery of standard and nonstandard speech, fragments, parts of speech, parts of sentences, complements, mood, verbals, and compound sentences. Reviews nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives and adverbs, language problems and sentence improvements.
Language Skills I (Grade Level 1)
Develops and strengthens phonics skills, long and short vowel sounds, final consonant sounds, vowel clusters, homophones, double consonants, consonant blends. Introduces different spellings for same sounds, compound words, and ending syllables. Includes vocabulary words that demonstrate these concepts. Excellent essay questions!
Language Skills II (Grade Level 2)
Assists in mastery of short and long vowels, double ending consonants, homophones, consonant blends, compound words, contractions, vowels in syllables, the schwa sound, different spellings for plurals, and adding endings to words. Includes vocabulary words that demonstrate these concepts.
Language Skills III (Grade Level 3)
Reviews and assists in mastery of long and short vowels sounds, consonant blends, homophones, compound words, contractions, synonyms, antonyms, the schwa sound, suffixes, different spellings for vowel sounds, silent letters, and capitalization. Introduces vocabulary words associated with pastimes, foods, clothing, and animals. Includes vocabulary words that demonstrate these concepts.
Language Skills IV (Grade Level 4)
Reviews and assists in mastery of long and short vowels, homophones, the schwa sound, plural possessives, contractions, compound words, consonant blends, and suffixes. Writing IV (Grade Levels 4-6)
Reinforcement for Writing III. Assists students in mastery of writing skills with practice in writing to inform and persuade, expressing feelings, advertising, drafting, revising, word sets, comparisons, sentence types, fact and opinion. Also includes exercises using positive and negative, question and statement, sentence construction and combination. Students write about personal experiences and express points of view.
Writing V (Grade Levels 7-9)
