Description:

Online Reader is a self-correcting, learning information system designed to improve students' test scores and reading comprehension skills. Students read current magazine articles included in the software and answer a series of questions based on the article content.

Monthly, EBSCO's staff of teachers selects hundreds of magazine articles from EBSCO Publishing's periodicals collection - the same collection used to create the popular periodical databases MAS FullTEXT Premier, Middle Search Plus and Primary Search. Appropriate multiple choice, analogy and sequence questions are written for each article to determine if a student not only read but also understood the material presented. The questions are then formatted for the comprehension tests.

All the magazine articles and tests are included in the Online Reader software. The software allows more than one student to be reading any given article at the same time, allowing an entire class to be evaluated on the same material simultaneously.

Online Reader offers complete grading and performance tracking features, which allow teachers to track the performance of individual students, classes or even the entire school. Students earn points for choosing more difficult reading types and for reading above grade level.
