Description:

World of Words is an award-winning, widely reviewed, software program that helps students improve their vocabulary, and is especially useful for those students trying for higher PSAT and SAT verbal scores. It combines text, graphics, and sound to provide multiple ways to learn--something for every student's personal learning style. It can be used both in school and at home as part of a learning program.

World of Words stars a multicultural teenage guide named Luther, who uses vocabulary culled from previous SAT's in stories and illustrations about his favorite bands and musicians. Luther's stories are relevant to teens' own experiences, and thus provide easy "hooks" for learning. Users are given the opportunity to create their own stories and images too--reinforcing vocabulary acquisition in a personally meaningful context.

WOW customizes activities to meet the needs of the individual. Students can interact with material by typing, drawing, and comparing their impressions with the program's information. The program is intended to increase reading comprehension, writing skills, and communication skills.

Target Audience

World of Words is particularly beneficial for high school students preparing for the PSAT/SAT's and the ACT's, middle school students studying for the SSAT's (Secondary School Admissions Test) and people of all ages who want to increase their vocabulary knowledge. WOW is also recommended for such diverse populations as the gifted, the English as a Second Language student, and the learning disabled.
