Tikkun Olam, or “repair of the world,” is one of JCRC’s core values
and translates into making the world a better place.
JCRC’s Tikkun Olam projects advance the mission of the JCRC by
building positive relationships between Jews and through collaboration
with other communities. To date, these projects include the Jewish
Coalition for Literacy, the New
Leaders Project, the Isaiah
Project, and the Coalition
on the Environment and Jewish Life.

Fifty-five
percent of fourth graders in California read below grade level.
It's a shocking statistic, but it's a reality for thousands
of children. The Jewish Coalition for Literacy is dedicated
to reversing this statistic, one child at a time. Jewish tradition
stresses the importance of tikkun olam - literally, "repairing
the world." Visit
the JCL website. |

The
New Leaders Project (NLP) is a nine-month leadership
development program designed to create a new generation of
Jewish leaders who are activists in both the Jewish and civic
communities. NLP is a program of the JCRC, which seeks to
integrate Jewish learning, facilitative leadership, and social
action. Visit
the NLP page. |

The
Isaiah Project, an African-American and Jewish alliance
for social justice and collaboration, seeks to improve relationships
and address issues of common concern among Blacks, Jews and
other cultural groups in the San Francisco Bay Area. Visit

Coalition on the Environment
and Jewish Life
|
The
Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life was founded
in 1998 by a core group of people that worked together in
what became known as the Headwater Rabbis Campaign - a faith-based
campaign to protect old growth trees in California's Headwater's
forest. Bay COEJL aims to guide, inspire and educate Jews
and their friends toward repairing the earth in keeping with
Jewish teachings and tradition. Bay COEJL is one of 13 regional
affiliates of National COEJL. Visit
the Bay COEJL website. |
