Burn Aid

T e c h n i c a l   S p e c i f i c a t i o n s

The BURN-AID foam dressing is a sterile trauma burn dressing designed primarily for temporary pre-medical FIRST-AID use on Burns and Scalds at the scene of an accident to provide protection against contamination and minimise trauma until professional medical attention is available.

The BURN-AID foam dressing comprises of a soft elastic, inert plastic foam sheet saturated with a water-based gel that has several beneficial physical characteristics.

The BURN-AID foam dressing has the ability of efficiently covering the burned area and yet be elastic enough to accommodate possible swelling or the need to flex joints.

By covering a burn wound with a BURN-AID dressing, the sterile material avoids further atmospheric or environmental contaminants from reaching a vulnerable wound. No threads, strands, fibres etc can possibly be shed by the inert foam base to embed themselves in the wound.

The moist gel impedes bonding with the wound and thereby also facilitates easy removal for evaluation and treatment. The gel is primarily water and can thus easily be removed by water flushing if it is considered necessary.

The BURN-AID sterile foam dressing if correctly applied where professional medical service is not immediately available, is able to remain reasonably moist even for periods of up to four hours if need be. The BURN-AID dressing can be loosely bandaged with preferably a non-absorbent material and taped if it needs to be applied for a longer time.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING BURN-AID DRESSINGS AS COMPARED TO the historical practise of applying water soaked dressings, towels, blankets etc.?

1. The BURN-AID dressing and gel are sterile and free of possible contaminants often present even in tap water not to mention their presence in materials that might be used in haste.

2. Water has the characteristic of flowing away requiring replenishment while the gel will not readily do so even in relatively extreme temperature conditions. This makes BURN-AID portable thus enabling the burn victim to be transported while being treated at the same time.

3. It is easily demonstrated that the physical ability of the gel is to absorb and dissipate heat away from a burn wound. This is quite extraordinary compared to water soaked dressings, towels etc. This characteristic of BURN-AID is highly regarded in providing burn victims with relief and diminished trauma.

Finally BURN-AID dressings are immediately available and ready for use on a single burn incident to multiple burn victims' requirements. BURN-AID dressings are highly portable to the most inaccessible places where a burn victim might require immediate, urgent burn trauma attention.
