American artist F. Pieter Lefferts

"To me the Adirondack Mountains are the original American landscape, both in geology and in art. The mountains are formed from the oldest rocks on earth and were the inspiration for the earliest American artists who set out to record the primeval landscape of the New World. In childhood I became aware of the magnificence of nature by experiencing the deep forest of the Adirondacks and today I paint to express my feelings and sense of place when I'm in the wilderness.

"My experiences first drew me to the paintings of Winslow Homer and the grand vistas of the Hudson River School. I later discovered Impressionism, and I've also found inspiration in the work of N. C. Wyeth and the abstract North Woods landscapes of American Modernist Harold Weston. These influences have melded together and given shape to my own vision as a painter of the wild."

F. Pieter Lefferts is an award-winning artist whose works are in collections throughout the United States and in Europe. His work focuses on the wilderness of North America and the animals and people that inhabit it. He is a graduate of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and trained in portraiture and figure painting at the Art Students League of New York. He has traveled widely visiting many of the world's finest museums and cultural treasures enriching his knowledge of Art History.

Pieter is also a frequent visiting or resident artist to schools and art associations conducting workshops, master classes and mural projects through the Greater Hartford Arts Council, the Farmington Valley Arts Center and the Litchfield Performing Arts Gigline/ArtsAid!
