Borough of Litchfield

The Borough of Litchfield was incorporated as the first of only two villages in Connecticut in 1818 and re-chartered as a Borough in 1879. By special legislation, it was designated the State's first Historical District in 1959 and has received National Register and National Historic Landmark status from the U. S. Department of Interior. Founded to serve the differing needs of a village center, the Green-oriented Borough still retains its world-renowned reputation as the quintessential living New England community.
