Model AML-6KG is the most powerful memory sanitizer available for magnetic media. The latest materials and computer-aided-design have been utilized to create this totally new high-performance sanitizer. This device replaces our own Model 42-P-MEM, and all other previous lower-performance equipment.
Model AML-6KG produces peak fields exceeding 8,000 Gauss (we have measured fields as high as 12 kGauss in spots), with 6,000 Gauss guaranteed. Previous equipment delivered only three erasing poles, at much lower levels, with the center pole strongest, and the other two much weaker.
Model AML-6KG has two minor poles delivering at least 3,300 Gauss each. A high field at only one pole will not produce a sanitizing field at that level. At least two poles must be present at the high level for it to be considered the sanitizing field, because the media must be driven in both directions at the high level.
Physical Description:
A handheld paddle-shaped device, composed of a one- piece aluminum structure, containing an advanced high-energy magnetic assembly, producing an extremely intense, continuous, 4-pole magnetic field.

Model AML-6KG is completely portable (weighs 5.5 oz. or 156g), uses no power, and requires no maintenance. The magnetic elements are extremely stable and will not weaken with age or use. Model AML-6KG is supplied with a fitted steel case, covered in velvet, for safe transport and storage. This steel case acts as a magnetic shield to prevent unintended erasure of nearby media.
Purpose:
AML-6KG is intended for "sanitizing" erasure of information, primarily for security purposes. When a disk pack needs service or needs to be transported in a non-secure environment, or is reassigned to non-secret information storage, there is always the problem of secret information remaining on the disks. The disk drive unit does not have sufficient magnetic performance to completely erase information. Traces of the previous information will remain "under" the erase signals, and even under information recorded over the secret information.
Model AML-6KG produces a magnetic signal so powerful, that it will quickly and completely remove the data and data traces, making recovery of the data impossible, even with sophisticated laboratory recovery techniques.
Applications:
- Sanitizing conventional 14" disk packs, by placing the paddle between the disks and rotating the disk pack.
- Sanitizing 3-1/2", 5-1/4" or 8" floppy disks, by wiping both disk sides.
- Sanitizing any other hard or floppy disk magnetic media by wiping the entire recorded surface with the paddle blade.
- Sanitizing magnetic storage drums.
Principle of operation:
For complete erasure, the recording media must be driven through its complete hysteresis loop (completely magnetizing the media first one way, and then the other). This removes all data and old data traces. Model AML-6KG drives the recording media through four sequentially opposing magnetization peaks.
Performance:
This unit meets or exceeds National Security Agency specifications for security erasure of floppy disks and hard disk magnetic media, and outperforms all other handheld sanitizing devices by a very wide margin.
