LEVER LOCK PICKING
Description: Lever locks are much more common in America than generally thought. Virtually all high security safes have a lever lock, as well as nearly all safe deposit boxes. We will examine a variety of lock designs to discover which locks can be picked, and which tools to use. Each student will gain hands-on experience with a two-in-one (Hobbs’) pick. Decoders and other methods of opening will be discussed in this one day program.
Who Should Attend: All locksmiths and safe technicians who want to improve their earning potential.
Materials: All hand-tools, locks, picks, and other materials necessary to this program are supplied by MBA. Participants need not bring anything but a willingness to learn.
The Program:
Principles of lever lock operation. We examine the workings of single-bitted locks, double-bitted locks, "pipe" key locks, single and multiple fence locks. Fixed levers verses changeable levers, false gates, and other construction variations. Hobbs’ picks and their usage are demonstrated, followed by hands-on practice by the students on seven-lever safe locks. The day concludes with demonstrations of a variety of decoding and picking devices for both safe and safe deposit locks.
