Past President of  the Northern California Chess Association, Chess Journalists of America and Kolty Chess for Youth Foundation.  Former Director of the Mechanics Instititute’s chess room.

1996-1999: member of the USCF’s executive board.

2000-2002: member of FIDE’s executive board.

2000-present: trustee on the US Chess Trust.
