"Letter from Home" ~Dusty Sound!

Got a down-home letter from my momma today.

It came all the way from the big PX
on the peaceful side of the planet--
land of perfume
and powder puffs
and poodles on leashes.
It was written on petite pink paper
fenced round by thornless roses.

It was chock plumb full of down-home news.
Football pre-season practice started
And it's been hot and awful dry
And a jarhead named Whitman
wasted a dozen-odd students
from a window in the UT tower.

Momma doesn't know what this world's coming to.
But she says nobody I know got killed.
Momma is real glad I'm in Vietnam
working in a hospital where I am safe
where nobody I know gets killed.
