Dusty on Nixon

Since Mr. Nixon ran in '68 on a platform of getting us out of the war, and since almost half of the names on the Wall were put there during his administration, he certainly took his sweet time getting us out. If we had "won," the children of the original American Vietnam vets would now be there policing the place, just like Korea. I was a nurse in Vietnam and my feelings about the war are quite simple: too many dead sons, too many dead daughters, too many dead brothers and sisters, too many dead lovers, too many dead husbands. Nixon could have done years earlier what he eventually did, notwithstanding his "secret plan": he cut and run. Every day of my life I think about those dead kids with sadness and anger. I wish Nixon had.
