Van Devanter, Lynda
Suggested Reading Home Before Morning: The Story of an Army Nurse in Vietnam - Reissued with a new preface by the author

A nurse's story. This is the book that made people realize there are women veterans too and they saw very rugged service. If you are trying to understand the war, this book needs to be on your list. Like so many memoirs of the war, the trip home is in the middle of the book, not on the last page.

This republication is the first time it has been published in the UK.

Visions of War, Dreams of Peace : Writings of Women in the Vietnam War

A collection of poems by women who were "in-country." This anthology was put together to raise money for the Vietnam Womens' Memorial. It is still, unfortunately, the only anthology of poems by women who were in Vietnam. The quality of the work varies, but the feelings come through and some of the work is brilliant.
