For those of you who were unable to make the National Symposium and those who missed the background of what we’re doing, let me update you. One of the primary missions of SNA is to foster and promote a general understanding of Surface Warfare to the public at large. This includes, but is not limited to surface warships (and the men and women who are responsible for them) in our Navy, their evolution, accomplishments and contributions to the national defense. The Board of Director’s has unanimously decided that one means of doing that is to publish a coffee table book for sale to the general public that will focus on Surface Warriors. We unveiled that plan at the Symposium in January. The book is in the process of being assembled our photographer, Brian Wolff is on the road; our editor John Alexander, CDR, USN (Ret) is assembling copy and the publisher, Frank DeLuca is readying the presses. It will be complete and ready for shipping in time for this Christmas season and the turn of the millennium.

The book will be 160 pages in full color including 132 photo pages and 24 technical pages. It will be 9x12 inches in size and of very high quality. It will be very similar to the book From The Sea currently in the bookstores, but will focus solely on Surface Warfare. Chapter titles include – A nostalgic Look Back, The Training Continuum, Surface Navy Strategy, Where Excellence is the Daily Routine, One Navy Force, Technology and Readiness, and Sailors – Backbone of the Surface Navy. The book will be sold at regular retail bookstores for $40, but is available at a pre-publication price as shown below:

The price for SNA members is $31.95 (for 1-4 copies) and $34.95 (for 1-4 copies) for non-SNA members.

Special bulk prices for five or more copies are available as well as the opportunity for corporations to include a letter and logo as a sponsor . Please contact the SNA office for additional information.
