As Lomza PSA Archives Coordinator, I'm very pleased to announce that contributions have come in at a steady pace, and 7 of the 15 towns have now been fully funded. The 15 towns in Lomza Gubernia covered by the project are:Andrzejewo, Czyzewo, Grajewo, Lomza, Nowogrod, Nur, Radzilow, Rajgrod, Sniadowo, Szczuczyn, Tzcianne, Wasosz, Wizna, Wysokie Mazowieckie, and
Zambrow.

If you have an interest in any of the above towns, please consider making a donation to the project, even if your particular town has been fully funded. By making a donation, you will receive a complete Excel file of your town's indices and be able to examine the town's complete records all at once.

Subject: Lomza Archives Indexing Project

On behalf of Jewish Records Indexing - Poland, I am pleased to announce the formal launch of the JRI-Poland / Polish State Archives project to index the vital records for towns in the Lomza Archives not filmed by the Mormons. The Lomza archive has extensive records for the following 15 towns in the area: Andrzejewo, Czyzewo, Grajewo, Lomza, Nowogrod, Nur, Radzilow, Rajgrod, Sniadowo, Szczuczyn, Tzcianne, Wasosz, Wizna, Wysokie Mazowieckie, and Zambrow.

Copies of all the index pages (967!) for these towns have been received and JRI-Poland's Warsaw-based team is already hard at work doing the data entry. In addition to the index pages received, there are many years for which indices were not created by the 19th century town registrars. However, the Polish State Archives has given JRI-Poland the green light to enlist the aid of the archivists in Lomza to do the data entry of the non-indexed years on our behalf. This work is also underway. I am delighted by the response of my fellow researchers who have volunteered to be the Town Leaders and lead the fundraising for the indexing of the records for their towns.

The costs to index the records and the respective Town Leaders are:
Andrzejewo $179.76 Judy Baston JRBaston@aol.com
Czyzewo $359.60 Gary Palgon GMPalgon@aol.com
Grajewo $349.88 Jose Gutstein JMG-Miami@msn.com
Lomza $943.96 Michael Tobias Michael@tobias.org.uk
Nowogrod $523.28 Warren Blatt wblatt@jewishgen.org
Nur $79.08 Judy Baston JRBaston@aol.com
Radzilow $134.16 Jose Gutstein JMG-Miami@msn.com
Rajgrod $145.16 Sheila Salo ssalo@CapAccess.org
Sniadowo $281.28 Michael Richman Mbresq@aol.com
Szczuczyn $419.24 Jose Gutstein JMG-Miami@msn.com
Trzcianne $81.36 Jose Gutstein JMG-Miami@msn.com
Wasosz $107.72 Jose Gutstein JMG-Miami@msn.com
Wizna $94.40 Sheila Salo ssalo@CapAccess.org
Wysockie Maz. $329.40 Judy Baston JRBaston@aol.com
Zambrow $463.16 Steven Zedeck saz@jlc.net

We invite researchers with an interest in these towns to contribute to the indexing work for their own town's records to the degree that they are able. Researchers contributing a minimum of $50 per town will be eligible to receive an Excel File with all the indices for those towns. However, for Lomza, with a much larger database, the minimum contribution to receive the Excel file with indices will be $100.

Indices to records for each town will be released to the JRI-Poland database as soon as the work for that town is funded. Researchers contributing the minimums outlined above will receive the Excel File in advance of public release. You may choose to obtain the indices for more than one town. Not only will this enable you to see the information in advance of its general availability in the JRI-Poland Searchable Database, it will make it possible for you to examine your own town's indices in detail, and perhaps find an index entry with a highly unusual alternative spelling of the family name or a surname whose connection you had forgotten. It will also allow you to massage the data (for example, sorting by first name) to search for a great-grandmother's elusive maiden name. This means that when indexes are completed for each town, this new material ill finally allow you to expand your research into a time period that has been elusive and beyond easy reach. In most cases the years covered by the Lomza PSA project contain missing links in our genealogical chain - the time when our grandparents and their sisters and brothers were born and were married.

Please help us ensure that current and future generations of researchers for these towns will have easy access to the records of their families. No donation is too small. Give what you can. Your contributions in US Dollars may be mailed to:
