St. Elizabeths Hospital offers a comprehensive four year psychiatric
residency program.
During training, residents are exposed to the main currents in psychotherapy
-- individual, family, group modalities and many schools -- psychoanalytic,
behavioral-cognitive, expressive. The campus residents walk has been a seedbed
for many of these. Staff of St. Elizabeths were a major force in introducing
psychoanalysis to the public hospital in the teens of this century. The
creative arts therapies (art, music, dance, bibliotherapy and psychodrama) and
pastoral counseling have all had pioneering departments on the St. Elizabeths
Campus. These continue to provide viable treatment and training services here.
