64. William DODSON, JR.

ID: I06390
Name: William {Bucky} DODSON , Jr.
Sex: M
Birth: 2 FEB 1793 in Patrick County, Virginia 1
Death: 9 AUG 1879 in Beech Cove, Van Buren County, Tennessee 1
Note:
The following information was provided by Mickey Dodson, Cookeville, TN.
"William "Bucky" Dodson was born 2 Feb. 1793 in Patrick County, Virginia. He died on 9 Aug. 1873 and is buried in the Beech Cove Cemetery, Van Buren County, TN. His mother may have been a second wife of his father. William came with his parents to White County, TN in 1808 where they settled at the "Big Bottom". William "Bucky" later bought land near Beech Cove near Caney Fork in a part of the county that became Van Buren County in 1840, where he lived for many years. A land grant, signed by Govenor Sam Houston, to William Dodson is recorded in Vol. A, pg. 88 of White County land records. He purchased another tract from Elizabeth Donelson in 1824, 40 acres on Caney Fork {White deed H-358}.

According to family records, William was for 60 years a member of the Predestination Baptist Church in Beech Cove. He was married, probably about 1818, to Martha Peck who was born about 1800 in Virginia {her surname is not proven}. She was living as late as 1 June 1870 and was probably the only wife of "Bucky" Dodson."

107. Rebecca LONGACRE

ID: I08959
Name: Rebecca LONGACRE
Sex: F
Birth: 14 DEC 1781 in Frederick County, Virginia
Death: 28 DEC 1880 in Delphos, Allen County, Ohio
Note:
"Major" Joseph Longacre of Frederick County, Virginia was a Justice of
the peace and Surveyor for about forty years in succession and was twice
High Sheriff. He was clerk of the Forge Iron Works of which Isaac Zane
was proprietor. He plotted and laid out the town of Zanesville, Ohio
which is now a city. He was the owner of a number of slaves. He was the
father of thirteen children, six sons and seven daughters. His daughter
Rebecca was born December 14, 1781. She left her fathers home at the age
of fourteen to live with her brother Dr. Longacre (no I don't know which
brother). He was the owner of forty slaves. She was very timid and when
her brother had occasion to punish the slaves, would lock herself in her
room. She never returned home to live but, in a short time, married Bush
Vance Pangle (Bush Vance b 1774). They lived in Virginia and he was
overseer of Major Longacre's slaves for a short time. He was afterwards
a farmer and moved to Lancaster, Ohio and then to Urbana, Ohio. From
there he moved to north of Lima, Ohio (Sugar Creek Twp, Allen Co). They
lived in the woods and from these trees Vance built their home.
Note:
He was a soldier in the war of 1812 and during this time Rebecca was left
alone to raise at that time their 9 children. At the time of his death
in 1837 their youngest child was only seven. All 15 of their children
were born in VA.
Note:
When the children were grown Rebecca sold the farm but kept an interest
in the crops. The land now belongs to the Jacobs. She drew a pension
from Bush in the war of 1812 and spent her remaining years with their son
Elisha Pangle in his home outside of Delphos, Allen Co, OH. Rebecca died
in 1880 at the age of 99 years and 14 days. Rebecca outlived 13 of her
15 children, Elisha was the last of the children to pass on.
Note: Complied from the research of Thomas McCabe and Robert Carl.
