PowerWords is now a registered trademark, first appeared as the Flashcards only in 1991, and was followed in 1992 and 1993 by the coordinated Workbooks and the Rhythm, Rhyme, and Rap audio cassette.  The entire series was very carefully researched, designed, and assessed in the SAT Verbal Prep course given to 100 students.  Thus, each sentence stands on its own -- if the students could not get the essence of the target word's meaning, it wasn't used.  The class was comprised partly of kids in my private practice, and wholly by those who had various degrees of learning and test-taking/scoring deficits.  All went up 200 to 350 points on the Verbal in PSATs, SSATs, ERBs, and SATs.  Actually, it has to work, since it is based on the way the human animal learns best -- through visual imaging, humor, music, and FUN!  They may keep changing the SAT, but they cannot change the way knowledge is perceived, comprehended, and retained.    -- Edith L. Sennet

Testimonials

1.  Having tutored hundreds of students, your flashcards are the most effective SAT educational aid that I have ever utilized.  For years, my students have had to memorize lists of vocabulary words and meanings.  No longer!  Your cards blend a masterful set of memory aids -- an illustration and a carefully designed sentence that tie together the illustration and the meaning.  The results have been amazing. -- John C., SAT Tutor

2.  I have spent 14 years drilling vocabulary words to my bright, learning-disabled, 17 year old daughter, who due to word retrieval problems retained them.  But, PowerWords has actually enabled her to retain word meanings through patterns of synonyms, visual cartoons, and rhymes which are so entertaining and often hilarious.  The workbook activities encourage her to use visualization skills to draw her own cartoons, and the insights she develops surface through her drawings.  I highly recommend all of the PowerWords Series for any student with a language-based learning disability, as well as for non-disabled high school students who want and need those vocabulary skills to stay with them.  Thanks to this program, she understands many more words.  And, more and more, she uses them in conversation as well as in writing. -- Jacqueline E-C, School Psychologist, Learning Disabilities Specialist

3.  I have been using PowerWords SAT Verbal Prep with my Resource students, grades 6 through 10, with marvelous results!  -- Delores F., Jr. High Resource Teacher

4.  My son took the SAT in May and said that his much improved Verbal was a result of your cartoon cards.  Bravo for teaching language through the modern media that our students appreciate, especially my son.  Many thanks. -- Emily S.

5.  The cards, in particular, attracted the students' attention and served as a motivation to learn and use the words. -- Fred F., Harborfields High School

6.  Thank you so much for the material.  It seems very helpful.  I have shown many educators and they seem really interested.  If you have any more materials, information, etc., please keep me informed. -- Karen S.6.  Thank you so much for the material.  It seems very helpful.  I have shown many educators and they seem really interested.  If you have any more materials, information, etc., please keep me informed. -- Karen S.

7.  With PowerWords, my daughter has mastered many new words and is now confident and self-assured that her SAT scores will reflect her success.  Her tutor is now raving about them also.  -- Joyce S.

8.  The Sennet Learning System's PowerWords program has helped me immensely in preparing for my SATs.  I usually don't use words like cacophony or chimerical in my own vocabulary, but I know they are important and the PowerWords program help me understand, pronounce, and correctly use words unfamiliar to me in a way that is easy to comprehend and remember.  I know I will be more confident and less nervous when I take my SATs this Spring.  Thank you! -- Brahm H., 11th Grade

9.  While browsing through Teacher College Columbia University Bookstore, I came across a file with index cards defining through definition and illustrations the most used vocabulary words for SAT preparation. I immediately purchased it for my son and he is actually enjoying memorizing the words.  -- Donna D.

10.  My 10th grade son, a very average student, has never before come to see me and asked for extra learning materials, except this one time.  His friend had your flashcards and Scott was impressed and very motivated!  Thank you very much. -- Lisa H., Surprised Mom
