Point Pleasant Drainage System and Point Pleasant Sanitary
Sewage Collection System

Point Pleasant-Pumping Station

Location: Anne Arundel County, Maryland
Clients: Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works

Point Pleasant is a 225 acre community located on a peninsula between Furnace Creek and Marley Creek in northeastern Anne Arundel County. Built during the 1950s, this residential community had private septic systems and an inadequate storm drainage system. By the 1970s, many of the septic systems were failing and the streets and homes where subject to frequent flooding.

We surveyed and designed a drainage collection system to alleviate street and yard flooding, and a sanitary sewage collection system to replace the private systems. In some areas, grinder pressure pumps were found to be a more economical solution than a gravity collection system. We also designed a pumping station to pump the sewage from the system to the Cox Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant.
