Under
three open-end contracts from 1991 through 1998, we had 35 assignments
for the relocation of water and sewer lines, ranging from 200 feet
to four miles long.
Water
main relocations varied in size from 8" to 60" and have
included a 16-inch main in a 48-inch diameter tunnel under the Amtrak
Railroad.
Sanitary
sewer design included gravity sewers from 8" to 33" and
a grinder pump pressure system.
Of
particular note is the relocation of a 60" water main along
the west side of the Capital Beltway, necessitated by the construction
of a new interchange at Arena Drive in conjunction with the Redskins
Stadium. This project was performed on a "fast track"
basis, and we worked closely with several other consultants and
the State Highway Administration. The project won the Maryland With
Pride Award of Excellence in 1998.
