The Eating Disorder Resource Center A privately run outpatient facility specializing the treatment of anorexia nervosa, bulimia and binge-eating disorder. The EDRC was one of the pioneering organizations in the field of eating disorders, recognizing and responding to the need for specialized services for this population. Treatment
and Education Individual and group supervisory meetings are available to professionals on a short-term or ongoing basis. The Center also provides education and training to agencies, schools and other facilities. |

| THE DIRECTOR | Judith Brisman, Ph.D. was among the first in her field to develop a treatment program for the eating-disordered patient. She is co-author of Surviving an Eating Disorder: Strategies for Family and Friends(Harper Collins, 1997) and is on the editorial board of the journal Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention She has published and lectured extensively regarding the interpersonal treatment of eating disorders,. In addition to being the director of EDRC, she is on the teaching faculty of the William Alanson White Institute and maintains a private practice in New York City. | ||

In-house staff includes professionals who have expertise in the treatment of the eating-disordered patient and family members. Treatment is available in the downtown EDRC office or in locations throughout Manhattan. Geographical convenience is taken into consideration when referrals for treatment are made |

Individual
Psychotherapy Eating disorders, such as anorexia, bulimia or binge-eating disorder, are not solely problems with food and weight. They are ways of coping in which food is used to manage emotions and stress. Treatment goals include understanding the function food serves in meeting emotional needs, developing control of destructive eating patterns and finding healthier ways of leading oneÕs life. |

| Group
Psychotherapy Group therapy can be an important adjunct to individual psychotherapy. Through mutual support, guidance and peer networking, isolation eating rituals can be broken. Long and short-term groups are available. |

| Family
Treatment Eating disorders affect not only the person who suffers with the problem but also family members and spouses. Family meetings offer guidance, exploration and advice as to how to help someone who is in trouble with food. Short-term consultations, family therapy and family support meetings are available as needed. |
