Introduction to the Kangs

There are four of us: William (Will), Lawrence (Larry), Elizabeth (Betty) and Grace (Yoojin). Anyone who knows us will agree that the Kangs of Old Westbury are an eccentric bunch. See what Bum has to say, photos too!

Brief History of the Kangs

We used to live in a quiet surburban town in Long Island, but half of us have moved out of the family home. Only Larry and Yoojin are left with Mom & Dad. We've led pretty hectic lives, never living anywhere for more than three years. Only now we are living the exception for a record of six years. But during those six years we've actually moved to Flushing and another part of Old Westbury, only to find ourselves back to the same house. Don't ask why, I'm still trying to figure that one out. The Kangs started out in Sunnyside, Queens (1969), then moved to Roosevelt Island (1976). We moved onto greener pastures and found ourselves in Manhasset Hills, NY (1980). That is, until we picked up everything and moved to Korea - the land of the morning calm (1983). That was an abrupt move for us. My father wanted to acculturate us to the ways of Korea and he was pursuing his education and professional career. We finally left Korea after three years for educational reasons. Having been born in the US, we never spoke Korean quite as well as the other kids. Back in the US, we found ourselves in Brooklyn (1986). There my brothers went to high school and I finished junior high. While in Brooklyn, we moved a bit - from Midwood to Bensonhurst. In 1989, we moved to the house my parents are at right now. So that place holds the fondest memories for me, it's the only place I can call home. If you're ever in the area, stop by the Old Westbury Gardens.

Kang Bios

Will - Brown class of '93,
Larry - Cornell class of '94,
and me, I just graduated from Barnard class of '96.
For my sister Yoojin, age 8, we're looking at Harvard.

Will and Larry are bonafide geeks. They know it, their friends know it and now you do too. It's been a good life. Growing up with them, I've learned a lot about the essentials: computers, comic books and star trek. Larry has already started to convert Yoojin to the ways of geekdom.
