Artists (red) as a portion of All Workers (yellow), 1900-2050
From 1900 the artist population (actors and directors, announcers, architects, art instructors, authors, dancers, designers, musicians and composers, painters, sculptors, craft-artists, artist-printmakers and photographers) increased from 192,000 (0.66% of all workers) to 1,533,000 (1.22%), a 806.3% increase in the number of artists. This rate of increase is nearly twice that of the overall working population. At current rates by the year 2050 artists will comprise almost 2% of all workers and 1% of the whole population, or about 5,000,000 artists.
