Code SamplesOkay, so I'm a Software Engineer, among other things and I use this section to maintain some samples of my work. As such, these pages won't work unless you have the right browser, add-ins, etc. and could explode at any time! Java AppletsI originally did these Java applets back in 1996, but recently recompiled them using the JDK verison 1.3. I still used the deprecated APIs though, and so they should run under JVMs using version 1.1.2 or greater. Even if you don't know (or care!) what that means, suffice to say these should run if you're using Netscape 4.0 or Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater. Both of these examples also contain the source code, so you can get an idea of my coding style. JavaScript SamplesMany of my friends keep asking me for help with their JavaScript, so I've put in some JavaScript code, to show how to do drop-down menus, rollovers, browser sniffing and pop-up windows. Again, the samples contain source code, and may be freely used as long as you keep the original comments.
PERL SamplesPERL is a useful, if somewhat eclectic language that is very good for quickly automating back-end tasks, and was also one of the first widely used languages for programming web page functions. Personally, I think its a little dangerous, since small PERL scripts tend to grow into large PERL nightmare codebases, but many people love it. How The Web WorksThis doesn't really belong here, but I get so many questions on how the web works, what is client side vs. server side, and why isn't JavaScript Java, that I've built a useful diagram over the last few years with some explanations. I guess you could say its a documentation sample. |
