  • In a teaming arrangement, K&M and GTE/Contel have been selected as Owner’s Consulting Engineers to the Arab Republic of Egypt National Telecommunications Organization (ARENTO). The assignment is to complete a $200 million project that entails the installation of a Network Operations Center (NOC); installation of a state of the art Digital Switching System (DSS); the installation of a Centralized Operation and Maintenance System; and the installation of associated Outside Plant (OSP) cable networks.

  •  Specific assignments include installation of a NOC to:
    • Provide national surveillance and control of network traffic, network switching and transmission;
    • Provide total monitoring of the health of the network;
    • Maximize call completions; and
    • Characterize and evaluate network service levels.
  • Procurement management services for the construction and engineering of the OSP facilities, including:
    • prequalification of contractors;
    • cost estimation of contractor's bids; and
    • technical and commercial evaluations of the bids and recommendation to the Owner.
  • Construction management services, including enforcement of technical compliance with specifications and monitoring of all OSP construction activities. Installation of a 266,000 line of DSS to:
    • Expand the existing network;
    • Reduce the waiting lists for the service; and
    • Replace obsolete switching equipment in Cairo and Alexandria.
