Once data has been gathered and stored in the data collector memory it must be downloaded to a computer (or, perhaps, a printer) for analysis, inspection, and archiving. Our "DTUs" make this process effortless!
All of our Data Transfer Units ("DTUs") operate on just 12 volts of direct current ("DC") supplied by a U.L. listed power supply. Data is transferred at up to 9600 bps via a special RS-232 cable to the computer's serial communications port. Even a completely full data collector takes only moments to download and clear!
None of our DTUs require any direct electrical contact with the data collector, so there are no exposed contacts on any collector unit. All data transfer is accomplished with infra-red opto-isolation techniques.
All of our data transfer units designed for use with computer systems allow for remote downloading of data via modems. They can either dial a number from the remote site or accept an incoming call (depending on the unit in use) when connected to an auto-dial, auto-answer modem.
The de Trans DTU is designed for use with the "DE" line of data collectors (the de Watch or de Prox). Its internal programming allows it to be used as a direct transfer unit or as a remote unit in its "AT-modem" mode. The programming (including the telephone number to dial) is preserved in an Electrically Erasable Read Only Memory ("EEPROM"); no internal battery is required and it will not "forget" its programming when power is removed or disrupted.
Data transfer rates range from 300 to 9600 bps; the rate can be selected as needed. This flexibility allows the de Trans to be used with older computers or modems that may already be in place at your facility.
To read data from a portable collector, the user simply places the collector in the molded cavity of the de Trans and presses a button. A connection is made between the DTU and collector immediately and automatically! At a software command, the stored data is transmitted right through the sealed housings of both units.
The WK Trans DTU is essentially the same as the de Trans but is designed for use with the "WK" or magscan line of data collectors (the mag II, mag III, magscan, or proxscan).
This flexibility allows the WK Trans to be used with older computers or modems that may already be in place at your facility.
To read data from a portable collector, the user simply places the collector in the molded cavity of the WK Trans. There are no buttons to press when using a magscan-type unit; a connection is made between the DTU and collector immediately and automatically! At a software command, the stored data is transmitted right through the sealed housings of both units.
The WK Trans supplies power to the data collector via inductive coupling so that the collector battery power is conserved. As with the de Trans there are no direct power or data contacts between the WK Trans and the data collector.

The Reporter unit is designed as a multiple-use data transfer, reporting, and storage system. As a data transfer unit, its operation is identical to that of the de Trans or WK Trans.
The Reporter is available in two configurations: the Reporter de for use with the "de" line of collectors, and the Reporter WK for use with the "WK"/magscan line. For more information about its multiple-use feature, please see our page on stand-alone systems.

The de Print is specifically designed for use with the de Watch guard. This is a complete stand-alone system that does not require a computer for any aspect of its programming or reporting functions. This product was developed as a direct replacement of the old mechanical watchman's clocks.
The configuration and operation of the de Print is essentially the same as that of the de Trans, but the unit connects directly to an IBM compatible parallel printer. When a guard unit is placed in the cavity and the button is pressed, the de Print will immediately begin to print the pre-selected reports.
