Board of Directors Meeting
Meeting Minutes for April 23, 2001

Present: Jonah Markowitz, Leslie Gordon, Jesse Townley, Hale Zukas, Rose Acampora, Nicholas Feldman, Peter Trier, Denise Glagau

Meeting began at 6:50 p.m.

Approval of agenda
Motion of Approval of agenda by Jonah; seconded by Denise.
Motion approved.

Public Comment
Karen Hernandez : concerned about future of EDI. Encouraged an open search for new executive director.
Jonah: Ed Roberts Campus meeting on May 7 at 6:30 p.m. South Berkeley Center; Hearing tomorrow in Sacramento for Bill 524
Jesse: working for a company that provides public Paratransit called Friendly Transportation.

Approval of minutes from February 12 and March 26
Changes to March 26 minutes:
-change wheelchair report from Jonathan to John Benson;
-change Nick to Nicholas;
- change under the law to of the law;
-change clearer line of obligation to clearer line of authority
Jesse makes motion to approve with above changes. Motion approved.

Guest Speaker: Noel Rodriquez, Public Authority
-7 sites in Alameda County: Pleasanton, Freemont, Berkeley, Hayward, Oakland
-registry system
-screening by staff
-rapid response system (24 hour emergency response system available only in Oakland)
-enhanced hiring system
-training programs (in conjunction with Union Local 616)
-transportation funds (in development and conjunction with AC transit and BART starting in June; $48,000 from Alameda County. Create a subsidy for 6 month bus pass= approximately 168 bus passes with AC Transit).
-health benefits for personal attendants/health care workers (averaging 35 hours per month; basic plan with Alameda Life; co-payment is $8; no vision or dental)
There followed a question and answer period.

President's Report:
Peter makes motion that EDI will reimburse transportation costs and other reasonable expenses for someone designated by ED to go to the hearing in Sacramento for Bill 524. Jesse seconded. Motion passed.
Denise will attend board recruitment fair on May 23.

Secretary's Report
2001 minutes completed; looking into how to complete 2000 minutes

Executive Director's Report
-Discussion on hiring methods of new Program Manager
-Info Use client satisfaction report: 87% approval rate
-P.M. dispatcher: must change ad to read from 4 p.m. -12 a.m., not 2 p.m. - 10 p.m.
-Computer security
Denise leaves at 8:30 p.m.
-Disaster registry
-Health insurance for staff and attendants
-Meeting with Commission on Disabilities
- Nicholas proposes that he be at EDI on Sundays between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. to meet with consumers and attendants. Peter suggests 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
-Pre-scheduling Proposal:
Motion made to make the following word changes:
Easy Does It will accept requests for the pre-scheduling of an attendant call between the hours of 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. Monday through Friday changed to Easy Does It will accept requests for the pre-scheduling of an attendant call between the hours of 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. Monday through Friday
Calls cannot be prescheduled before 8 am r after 11:30 p.m. changed to Calls cannot be prescheduled for before 8 a.m. or for after 11:30 p.m.
Add: EDI will make every reasonable attempt to provide prescheduled calls at the time of the request.
Motion passes.

Nicholas left at 9:20 p.m. Peter left at 9:25 p.m.

Dates of meetings
Jonah makes motion to meet on Monday, May 21 instead of Monday, May 28 which is Memorial Day. Jesse seconded. Motion passes for meeting to be moved to May 21.
Leslie mentions that the community would like there to be an interpreter for her. There followed a discussion on Jonathan who it was agreed would be a good interpreter and a good board member, but he is unable to make Monday night meetings.

Jonah left at 9:35 p.m.

9:40: Jesse makes motion to adjourn; 4 ayes; Motion passed.
