MECHANICAL SWITCHES
Safe, Proven , Dependable
Isolation and Reversing Switched
Our Isolation Switches allow safe disconnecting of a motor or other
device for service or other use. The Reversing Switches allow controlled
reversing of motors, etc. by changing the power phases. They are
heavy-duty devices used primarily for mining applications. They are
designed for low maintenance, long operating life and have low operating
torque. They have flame retardant, non-tracking insulation and all
current carrying parts are of silver plated copper. Ratings on Isolation
Switches are 600 Ampers at 5000 VAC. Reversing Switches are rates
at 400 Amps at 1000 VAC and 1000 Amps at 2400 VAC. Pre-opening de-energizing
interlocks and auxiliary contacts are available options.
Centrifugal Switches
Our Wheel Type Centrifugal Switches are designed for use on belt conveyors
or similar applications. The switches help prevent slippage and belt
fires by automatically shutting off motors when a belt jams. They
operate on either AC or DC power and can operate in forward or reverse
direction. When connected in series the can sequence start belts
and trip speeds can be adjusted in the field with only a screwdriver.
Our Wheel Type Centrifugal Switch is compact and easy to mount and is available
in two configurations, both with a rugged drive wheel, a Dust-tight or
MSHA enclosure, and an adjustable speed range from 50 FPM to 1880 FPM.
Pushbutton Switches
Our Pushbutton Switches, used for various applications including “Emergency
Stop”, are MSHA approved for explosion-proof equipment use in hostile environments
where gaseous or other hazardous elements may be present. They are
electrically rated up to 20 A at 600 VAC and are available with various
N.O. and N.C., maintained or momentary contact configurations. The
switches are available with a maximum of four glands in various sizes and
configurations. The standard housings are aluminum, but are available
in bronze for special applications Sealed contacts are available
for use in Intrinstcally Safe circuits.
Pull Cord Switches
SMC’s Pull Cord Switches are generally uses along conveyor belt lines
to allow stopping from any position and are available for both explosion-proof
or dust-tight applications. The explosion -proof enclosure is MSHA
approved for operation in hostile environments where there are gaseous
or other hazardous elements present. The switches have normally closed
contacts at open when pulled and two directional pull allows coverage of
long belt lengths. Mechanical lockout prevents accidental start-up
as they must be manually reset and the switches provide visual indication
of a trip condition. They are available with one or two glands and
the contacts are rated at up to 20 A at 600 VAC as either SPDT or DPDT.
Sealed contacts are available for use in Intrinsically safe circuits.
Wobble Switches
Our Dust-tight or MSHA approved Wobble Switches are used where a quick
opening switch can be tripped by physical contact. A typical application
is alongside a conveyor belt to shut down the line if the spring mounted
shaft is tripped by belt alignment, too large loads, belt sagging. ect.
These switches have one N.O. and one N.C. contact with a rating of 10 A
at 600 VAC: they can handle 1/2 horsepower at 120 VAC and 1 horsepower
at 240 VAC. They come with two rubber cord grips, an 18” contact
hose, a maximum of two glands, and the straight through wiring allows easy
installation.
Electrical Connectors
Safe, Dependable, Durable
Lever Action, Low Voltage:
Provide quick connect/disconnect of AC or DC line or switchgear from
equipment or machinery. Our low voltage, non-explosive proof connectors
are available in models rated up to 1200A/600 VDC and 800A/1000 VAC and
wire sizes up to 500 MCM, with 300 A and 600 A being the most common.
The housings are built of rugged cast aluminum and they are compatible
with other existing connectors. SMC’s Low Voltage Connectors are
available as a plug or receptacle type and line or gear mounted.
They are supplies in various contact configurations, all of which are designed
to provide a ground circuit that makes first and breaks last and control
or pilot contacts that make last and break first. Special keying
is available to control interchangeability.
600V “B” Series
1000V “C & D” Series
2300V “E” Series
SMC’s explosion proof (X/P) connectors are approved by MSHA and
PA. They are rated up to 600 VAC, 60 A, and #6 cable sizes for the
“B”; 1000 VAC, 200A and 1/0 cable sizes for the “C”; 1000 VAC 400 A, and
350 MCM cable sizes for the “D” and 2300 VAC, 400 A, and 350 MCM
cable sizes for the “E” Series. The are available as a plug or receptacle
type, with male or female pins, and as line or gear mounted. To assure
safe operation, the ground pin makes firs and the pilot pin makes last.
Brass construction means inherent strength, durability, corrosion resistance,
and non-arcing characteristics. Our molded fiberglas, track resistant
polyester, high impact insulators provide superior dielectric strength
and Beryllium alloy MULTI-LAM® female contacts assure high conductivity
5000V “F” Series:
Available in either “open” (non-explosive proof) or explosion proof
models, the X/P versions are approved by both MSHA and PA. They are
rated up to 5000 VAC (specify 1 KV, 2.3 KV or 5 KV), 500 A, and for cable
sizes up to 500 MCM. These connectors are available as a plug or
receptacle type, with male or female pins, and as line or gear mounted
to assure safe operation, the ground circuit makes first and the pilot
pin makes last. The anodized aluminum housing is larger than comparable
connectors to make cable installation much easier and the reversible, insulated
strain clamp accepts various cable sizes to reduce the need for stocking
multiple parts. Our molded fiberglass, track resistant polyester,
high impact insulators provide superior dielectric strength. Special
keying is available for specific applications.
15000 “G” Series:
SMC’s three-phase, high-voltage connectors are rated up to 15,000 VAC,
and cable sizes up to 5000 MCM. They are available with Standard
or Quick-Lock threads, as a plug or receptacle type, with male or female
pins, and as lone or gear mounted. The ground circuit makes first
and breaks last as required in mining regulations. The aluminum housing
is lightweight and rugged and it features a one-piece, rigid non -breakable
high track resistant, molded EPDM insulator. Shield terminations
use stress relieving instead of bulky stress cones and EZ pot insulating
and sealing compound (easily applied or removed) is available.
Glands Kits
SMC offers a compresenive range of glands kits for use with various
connectors and many other type of products with a choice of straight, 90°,
or bellmouth hose tupec\s in either brass or aluminum. Tube sizes
are from 1/2” ro 3” for thread sizes from 11/8” - 12 to 31/4” - 12.
Kits are available for cable sizes up to 250MCM and with either 3/8” of
1/2” packing. These components come in either removable or weld in
configerations.
