The basis of ACA's operation is the shipment and distribution of materials to African schools and libraries. Where do we get them?
The answer is, YOU! The materials that we distribute in Africa comes to us from individuals who call around, find libraries, schools, or friends that have books, encyclopedia, computers, and other materials ready for retirement. We need your help locating and collecting these materials. You would be amazed to discover how much you can find in just a few hours. What is even more amazing is how much these materials will mean when placed with the recipient institution.
Here are some managable activities you can do to help:
| Call a school or library to see if they have some books (particularly books for kids) or encyclopedia (see Marla example). | |
| Call a small business, local corporation, hospital, college, or other such institution and see if they have "retired" computer systems they would be willing to donate to a tax exampt, non-profit organization for no cost distribution to African schools. | |
| Help transport materials to a local storage facility. | |
| Provide local, mid-term storage for collected materials awaiting ACA pickup. | |
| Sponsor a book drive at your school or church to collect and send to rural African schools (see Knight School example). | |
| Once you have some experience in the activities listed above, help coordinate others starting out. |
We need your help! The materials don't come to us on their own. This is a grassroots organization, and you can make a difference.
