American Connections to Africa, Inc. (ACA) is an educational non-profit organization whose mission is to promote goodwill and understanding between the peoples of America and Africa. ACA organizes American donations of books, computers, and medical supplies to African village schools. ACA also arranges internships in Africa for American students, teachers, and professors. The internships include a college level introduction to a variety of aspects of Africa, ranging from geography to tribal culture. Students participate in agricultural, educational, environmental, and health projects along with local villagers.

ACA provides development assistance in a unique manner. Students, teachers, and other professionals participate in internships in which they directly deliver supplies and assistance to areas in need. In this way, ACA can insure that all items are properly distributed while forming a stronger bond between participants on both sides. American participants see how their assistance is put to use, while African participants meet the people who are helping them instead of merely receiving impersonal packages. With the reduction and elimination of many government sponsored foreign aid projects, it will become increasing important for private activities, such as offered by ACA, to help offset these losses. They are important not only to the receiving countries, but to American interests and the perception of America as a friend to peoples of the world. |

Through ACA, students, teachers, and professionals experience Africa while contributing to its sustainable development. ACA participants gain the satisfaction of helping people to help themselves while establishing a bridge between our peoples. Please see our village projects page to get an understanding of the important ways in which ACA helps rural communities in developing countries.
