Day 1: Depart from New York City for London
Day 2: Day Tour of London. Depart London for Harare.
Day 3: Day in Harare. Tour balancing rock formations. Harare, like most of Africa, lies on a vast erosional surface, referred to as a peneplain. Huge boulders that resisted erosion sunk as the soil level decreased. As boulder came to rest on boulder, massive arrangements were formed. Visit Chapungu Sculpture Park, the leading promoter of Zimbabwean stone sculptures. Museum quality pieces from local artists are available for sale at a fraction of their cost outside of Zimbabwe. Harare has a wonderful selection of restaurants, some specializing in local game.
Day 4: Arrive in Chipinge. After a local tour, visit work site and villagers. Receive detailed description of project plan and objectives.
Days 5-13: Work on village project, with time out for local tours and day trips to Harare, the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, and a national park. Local tours while in Chipinge include tours of an ostrich farm, tea plantation, and large government plantations. At the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, explore the remnants of the former capital of the great Monomotapa Empire, which reached its climax from 1000AD to 1400AD. Also, visit a reconstruction of a nineteenth century Shona village. Observe a myriad of African wildlife in one of Zimbabwe's national parks.
Day 14: Free time in Harare. Depart Harare for London.
Day 15: Depart London for New York City.
