Protect Your Health and Safety
:Participants are responsible for receiving the appropriate vaccinations and medications prior to travel. The following vaccinations are required:
Information on these and other vaccines are available from the
Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. Please check with the CDC, as well as your doctor, for the latest information concerning your health while traveling. ACA suggests that you contact a "travel clinic" affiliated with a major hospital in your area. ACA has observed, however, that different travel clinics have suggested different immunization combinations for students traveling to the same place at the same time. Your best bet is to remember that you are traveling to a part of the world where diseases normally not encountered in the US are common. A polio booster is very important even though polio is rarely encountered is the US. While the list provided above represents the immunizations you should absolutely not be without, you must check with the CDC, your physician, and a reputable travel clinic for information updates of new immunizations available and new epidemiological problems for which additional immunizations are required. Keep in mind that some of these vaccinations require a series of shots spaced out over time, so begin your vaccinations as soon as possible!Other travel recommendations are available from the US State Department. The State Department provides numerous publications pertaining to your safety as well as your health.
