Electronic School, September 1995, A28-A29
Report of an instructional technology plan in the Hamilton City, Ohio schools
(K-12; enrollment 11,360), in which students were grouped into four learning
style categories: acquirer of information, retriever of information, constructor
of information, and presenter of information. Acquirers, or information
consumers, work best with tutorial, simulation, and drill-and practice programs.
Retrievers, or information searchers, prefer non-linear modes such as the
World Wide Web and CD-ROM. Constructors, or information producers, require
creative software that challenge higher-level thinking processes. Presenters,
or information showers, like multimedia and hypermedia products.
Planners need to find out from the teachers how much of each style of learning they will need, and propose acquisition of software products appropriately.
