Computers in the Schools, Vol. 11, No. 4, 1995, p. 15-25
Children as young as the first grade appear able to learn basic keyboarding.
Two methods of teaching keyboarding are the focus in the paper. One method
involves the use of a tutorial computer program, and the other method involves
the teacher and his/her lesson plans. Results showed that tutorial students
typed faster, but teacher-intensive students made fewer errors. The tutorial
students required 21 weeks to complete their lessons, but the
teacher-intensive students required only 12 weeks and had better accuracy.
On the average, female students typed faster than male students.
