There exists the question of whether computers will change early childhood
education. Although a number of studies have addressed this question, one
area that has not been examined is the teacher's contribution to children's
learning during computer instruction. It is known that teachers and the
social context determine what children will ascertain from their computer
experiences. This concept has been studied through the use of computer puzzle
software. It was demonstrated that teachers who offer optimal assistance
demonstrate and talk about the strategies involved in solving the puzzles,
offering guided feedback, while encouraging the child to solve the puzzle.
The teacher's role becomes that of a mediator.
