in the Schools, Vol 15 No 1, 1999, p. 65-72
While technology presents an almost endless supply of fascinating opportunities
for families and schools to work together to communicate and enhance the
learning of children, nevertheless finding ways to connect and link all
stakeholders in support of clearly definable outcomes presents a set of
stubborn and bedraggling problems. One of these is the fact that the family-school
connection takes place on rapidly changing social, economic, educational,
and political landscapes-in classrooms and in homes. Against this scenery,
technology has its hands full. In the final analysis, while technology may
seem like a single, unified, and almost mythic answer to the problems of
the family-school connection and enhanced communication and learning, of
course, it is not. To date, its power is still largely untapped and only
suggestive.
