Computers
in the Schools, Vol 15 No 1, 1999, p. 5-11
The Internet is an international network of computer networks that allows its users to share information and to communicate interactively. Applications and uses of the Internet include personal messaging or e-mail, teaching and learning, entertainment, research, and recently, business. The Internet has found its way into an impressive number of schools across North America and thousands can be found at Web66, the International Registry of Schools (http://web66.coled.umn.edu/schools.html). We are convinced that the Internet is a teaching and learning resource of unparalleled potential when it is available but it is significant to note, that of the 58 British Columbia schools registered on the Web66 site, all are within or next to large population centers. Clearly there are issues of access that need to be addressed.
