A Telecommunications-Infused Community Action Project

Thomas March and Jessica Puma
T.H.E. Journal, vol. 24, No. 5, December 1996, p. 66-70

Serving as a unique model for team learning, the authors describe their Nonprofit Prophets project sponsored by Pacific Bell's Education First initiative. High school students are teamed with a non-profit organization and directed to produce video conferences or Web sites for them. While specific skills are acquired, students also gain confidence and self-esteem as well as a belief that they can contribute to the world around them.
