Hal Lefferts - LYRICS

Metamorphosis

Caterpillar climbing up an old grey log
Little tiny legs moving him along
Little tiny steps, just a little bit further
I feel a lot like this today

Man say yes, Bank say no
How're you gonna buy it when you can't get the dough
You work all day
You work all week
You work all year to start over again

Well I know, I know . . .
"gotta keep it up, don't let it get you down"
But after a while you get so tired
When everything you do just don't make the grade

Chorus:
I believe I'm ready for a change
I've got to rearrange, conditions of my life
I believe I'm ready for a Metamorphosis
A Metamorphosis
A Metamorphosis of Life

Gotta buy a house, gotta buy a car
It's really all the same no matter who you are
You try anything to ease your mind
Away from the doubts you want to leave behind
But every once in a while when things get crazy
Got to take a chance, now don't be lazy
Like a caterpillar climb, you struggle all the way
You keep on movin till your changing day

Chorus:
I believe I'm ready for a change
I've got to rearrange, conditions of my life
I believe I'm ready for a Metamorphosis
A Metamorphosis
A Metamorphosis of Life

Caterpillar climbing up an old grey log
Little tiny legs moving him along
Little tiny steps, just a little bit further
I feel a lot like this today . . .

When I wrote this I was going through a change in life that I thought was going to be the Big One. You know, after this everything would be different (meaning better, richer, easier, etc.). Many years later the changes continue, sometimes better, sometimes worse, and all I can say about the evolution of this song is . . . that I had no idea of what was coming.
