Hal Lefferts - LYRICS

Switchin On The Lights

I'm not sure anymore, but I use to believe
That we could survive most anything
But the way its looking now
You've got to wonder if we'll last that long
Democracy, hypocrisy, the cries of the needy
And we all wind up in the grip of the greedy
Do we really think we can go on like this
Do we really think we can go on
Do we really think we can go on like this
Do we really think we can go on

Chorus:
I'm not sure anymore, but I think the halo is fading
There's so much fear and darkness all around
And while we were sleeping
The Devil come creeping
Creeping into our house
Into our house

Tip-toe through two lips talking
Mindless words set armies walking
Everybody trying to grab what they can take
Synagogue, temple, mosque and church
Only seem to make matters worse
Between God and Man there lies a Sea of Pain
These bloody ships of war will never cross
Between God and Man there lies a Sea of Pain
Religion that teach war will never cross

Chorus:
I'm not sure anymore, but I think the halo is fading
There's so much fear and darkness all around
And while we were sleeping
The Devil come creeping
Creeping into our house
Into our house

That's why I'm going round the House
Turning on every light
Switchin on the Lights 'cause we gotta wake up

Some people tell me that the music's OK
But the words I say are too much
I'll tell you right now it doesn't mean that much to me
They tell me that I'm preaching
When in fact I'm only reaching
For my brothers and sisters who feel the same way
Tell me, do you hear me calling out to you
Do you hear me calling
Tell me, do you hear me calling out to you
Hey, talk to me . . . talk to me

Chorus:
I'm not sure anymore, but I think the halo is fading
There's so much fear and darkness all around
And while we were sleeping
The Devil come creeping
Creeping into our house
Into our house
Into our house
Into our house

That's why I'm going round the House
Turning on every light
Switchin on the Lights 'cause we gotta wake up

I wrote this song out of my deep respect for Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Majek Fashek and many other Rastafarian songwriters, who have used their music to switch on many Lights of Consciousness. They taught me to put significant lyrics to a good groove, and then to sing it like you mean it. This song is dedicated to the memory of Bob Marley.
